How to Survive with a Younger Sibling

Knowing how to survive with a younger sibling is very useful in your daily life. Siblings can be picky, annoying, or always seem to be on your last nerve, but you don't want them hating you. That wont go over well with your parents. Life with a little brother or sister is constantly trying to get them to love you and fear you at the same time, which isn't easy. As the big sister or brother, you will probably never be able to get the siblings that are only a couple years younger than you to listen to you. They realize that you don't have very much seniority over them, and that they do not have to listen to you. Getting control over the toddler age isn't so easy either. Even if you were told by your parents to watch them, and they know that you are in charge for that amount of time, they still will not want to listen. If you want the little ones to listen, you can't be the fun sibling all the time. You should show them that you have been put in charge, and tell them they should respect you... or just tell them that any bad behavior will be reported to mom and dad when they return. Your life is always easier when they fear you... just a little bit.

Getting your little siblings to love you is the easy part. Show them that you love them, despite all the ways they annoy you. Play games with them, talk to them. If you're away, call them just to see how they are. You should establish a trust with them, so they know they can tell you anything. You can show them that you trust them by telling them things you would never tell anyone else. You're the big kid in the family, your younger sisters and brothers will do anything to get your trust and love. All they need is trust, some good times, some love, and you, their favorite sibling.
